Junior fishing competitions that keep kids coming back

Run junior fishing competitions and club days that keep kids, ladies and new members coming back: divisions, attendance points, release bonuses and more.

Clubs that grow aren't the ones with the best anglers. They're the ones where a 10-year-old or someone fishing their first comp goes home with a reason to come back.

None of these ideas are new. They just get forgotten when the same five people win every month.

Run divisions

A single leaderboard means the same people win. Split it into junior, senior and ladies divisions (and veterans, if your club has the numbers) and you've tripled the number of people who can win something on the day. In Club HQ you set each angler's division when they're entered, and every division gets its own board.

Reward turning up

An attendance point for everyone who fishes adds up over a season. A junior who comes to every round can finish ahead of a strong angler who misses three. That's a lesson worth teaching.

Count more than one species

Points for each species, plus a bonus for the longest of each, mean a kid who lands the only whiting of the day gets a moment at the presentation. Pure "longest fish" comps rarely do that.

Make catch and release count

A small bonus for released fish keeps juniors interested in handling fish well. It also means a good fish can go back and still count, as long as there's a photo.

Put names up fast

Nothing beats seeing your own name on the board. A live leaderboard at the ramp, or on parents' phones, turns a quiet afternoon into an event. Share the link in your club group chat so families at home can follow along.

Make joining easy

If someone has a good day, they should be able to join that evening. Share a join link, not a PDF form. Keep the form short and let the committee approve it online.

Celebrate the season, not just the day

Angler of the Year and junior Angler of the Year, built from each round's points (see fishing competition scoring formats), give people a reason to fish every round. Post the season standings after each comp.

You can see divisions and the season standings working in the interactive demo.
